“Lund Pangrazio’s work is preoccupied with notions of the transient. In her most recent works, she explores the correlation between moving through grief and the life cycle of trees and plants. A fallen tree is a tree that has lost its footing, and that no longer is what it used to be. It is no longer alive in the same sense as when it stood tall, yet within itself it hosts a myriad of new life forms. Like a fallen tree, people who experience loss can also experience that life as we know it gives way to something previously unknown. New worlds slowly grow out of our grief, and we become that fallen tree which encapsulates a new life. The paintings submitted to this prize all move through a dreamscape of an inner brushwood of branches, fallen trees and marshlands which hold worlds of life, death, memories and emotions.”
