“I am currently fixated on creating these dream-like bedroom and bathroom scenes built from personal memory, moments of solitude and sleeplessness. Playing with stereotypical elements and objects that make up a bathroom or a bedroom I like to build these scenes, none of which are real spaces, from memories and the idea of what a typical bathroom or bedroom looks like. These particular spaces are of interest to me because of their inherent privacy and intimacy, spaces that can be solely one’s own and can be the most vulnerable of environments. I enjoy playing with the figure to extend, exaggerate and melt them with the distorted furniture into one flowing image, and to push how far some elements can go but still be a recognisable moment or space. Depicting the figure and specifically women’s lives have always been central to my practice, this has turned to a personal reflection, although my current practice does not intend to be creating self-portraits it is still informed by personal experience.”
