“I carried the idea for this painting for a long time before bringing it to life. After experiencing the funerals of several close relatives, I wanted to capture the essence of those moments. The warm summer evening sun bathes the scene in bright, vibrant colors. I aimed to portray a funeral as it is observed in my home country, Azerbaijan—a Muslim culture shaped by the Soviet era. The painting is created on canvas with thick impasto layers of oil paint to achieve bold, striking colors and to merge abstract and figurative elements into a unified composition.”
