“This piece is of my close friend Caitlan who I have known since my teenage years. On a recent visit Caitlan posed for me surrounded by soft fabric and pattern. I had recently come across a sketch by Gustav Klimt that involved a woman in a similar pose and I couldn’t get it out of my mind. As she reclined there with her legs falling on either side I was struck by the unapologetic nature that the pose facilitated. There became a nice harmony between feminine relaxation and self assuredness that struck me in the moment. My artworks are primarily oil paint and pastel on board, panel or paper. I am interested in exploring themes of intimacy, contemplation, longing and barriers. I am mainly drawn to figurative artworks concentrating on the face and body to cast reflections and questions on the viewer, or to invite a shared moment and emotion. I am fascinated with human connection and with what it means to present a body in the world that we live in.”
