“As part of the ”Methods of Refraction” series, the painting ”Chlorinated Green Oxide” has been developed from a suite of photographs of my personal archive. The original image captures and communicate a sense of domestic space that is evocative of cultural and social memory, while the use of a synthetic and acid chromatic approach introduces a dimension that deviates from such familiarity. The title is at once descriptive of the painting in their make-up of colour, shading and light, as well as the chemical composition of each dominant pigment used. The result is an uncanny painterly image which delivers a sense of stilled movement belonging both to the past and through this painting to here and now.”
