“All my work is entirely figurative, it deals with questions of humanness and my visualisation of what I experience. I capture moments of human behaviour and translate them into an image that resonates with my own personal perceptions. I aim to express emotions that are familiar and relatable to all of us. My paintings are not narrative or descriptive but try to interpret what I experience and intend to evoke associations by means of my very individual process. The physical presence of my paintings and their unique materiality is what makes them original. I intend the viewer to be drawn in, to become enveloped by their intensity, to explore the skin of my paintings. The human image is the subject of all my work. I am figurative but in a conceptual, abstract way, using colour, form and sensations created by the material surfaces. My paintings are made up of countless layers, layers of paint as well as meaning. I am not trying to make paintings that depict something or someone, I want to make work that has its own presence, that is its own thing, that somehow goes beyond being simply a painting.”
