“The untameable nature of paint is what drives my practice, more than a thirst for control over it. Using a combination of Oil paint and sticks, this piece revels in the abstraction of a fleeting moment or thought, taking inspiration from colours, shapes, and patterns that form unprocessed in the natural environment around us. There is a hint to the mystical beauty that can be found in what others view as the mundane; a cliff is allowed to be more than a cliff in the realms of art and poetry. This piece using abstraction to its advantage when nodding to the figures and forms that swarm around in nature and day to day life. My approach to painting swarms with contradictions; there is structure to the chaos of mixing colours and serenity within the fast-paced application of paint. Intuition is a crucial part of my practice, endeavouring to replicate just some of the abundance of patterns in nature, both in the physical language of line and shape, in addition to the idea of repetitive cycles in history. There is a tug of war between beauty and discomfort in standing in a spot where thousands of others have stood before you.”
