What I explore in my painting is the moment when something seems familiar, yet escapes precise definition. Scenes in which one feels a recognition of the situation, and yet there is always something elusive, as if part of it remains outside, or is yet to happen. Figures are present but seem elsewhere; they may remind one of someone without ever being fully defined. The scenes are recognizable and concrete. The use of freely applied, sometimes controlled, brushstrokes across the entire surface, subsequently worked to create a sense of interpenetration between figures and objects, generates an overall movement made of both definition and chance. My paintings originate from images drawn from multiple iconographic sources, which I collect in my personal archives of photographs: glimpses of spaces I experience or feel familiar with, images found online, or sometimes from my imagination. I often depict private outdoor spaces—gardens, courtyards, terraces—where human figures or other elements integrate into the environment. Through this process, each image connects to a certain kind of everyday life that becomes personal for me, while simultaneously transforming into an open and subjective experience.”
