“I mainly paint figurative work and portraits which explore fragility, sensitivity and the vulnerability of my sitters. I am inspired to paint ‘the ordinary’ because by painting, the ordinary it becomes extraordinary. I like painting people who may never otherwise be painted or acknowledged in this way; everyone should have their portrait painted!
During the day I work as a retail designer, so I have to paint at night. My paintings are constructed using photographs of my subject. I will assemble the image I want out of several photos before I begin.
I am inspired by Hockney, Lucian Freud, Paula Rego and Vincent Van Gogh and have developed a unique style painting in oil on heavily primed plywood boards.”
