“Since 2023 I have been working on a series of drawings and paintings from Craiglockhart Hill, 1 of Edinburgh’s 7 Hills. It is a fascinating landscape of contrasting topography between woodland and baren open hill tops with panoramic views of the city and its idiosyncratic geography. It a great place for dog walkers, Stanley our border Terrier can run freely, and we both love it there. This drawing was made from the top of the hill, the dog walkers’ milestone. I remember wanting to explore having less in my drawing. It was a deliberate choice to make the foreground quite open and playfully sparse in contrast with the more densely worked natural forms and distant city.”
