‘My practice generally focuses on capturing my immediate environment, both indoors and outdoors. There is much to celebrate in the ordinary and mundane and I find myself looking for shapes and compositions in unlikely places. In this case, I was struck by the shapes of the shadows cast through a window, and how monumental they looked next to the domestic paraphernalia on the sill. This is an interior that doesn’t rely on decorative objects but elevates day to day things. I generally paint plein air and alla prima to capture the essence of a scene, and the texture of the paint reflects the short time I had to capture this particular play of light.”
