“The work is created using layers of pencil to build depth and tone. A range of graphite pencils were used from  4H to 9B.  the very darkest blacks use compressed charcoal which is fixed using layers of spay fixative.  The paper is cut from a large roll of Fabriano.  I place the paper on the wall in my studio using low tack tape.  I work from sketches and photographs taken directly from the signal box location.  The trees are an amalgamation of real trees in Sherwood forest close to my home.”
