Jo Berry’s paintings are in dialogue with the status of the image today, a look at the world viewed through screens.

Often working with a corrupted image, such as rephotographed news photos and film stills, it’s the qualities that appear in the process of failed representation – granularity, flatness and misregistered colour that are under investigation.

Through the process of cropping and editing these low-resolution images, there is a natural move towards abstraction, with visual references becoming difficult to resolve.
