“As storytelling plays such an important part in my work, it is always the starting point for a new painting. Often a kind of uncertain feeling that will stick around for a while before fully manifesting as the next topic for a painting or series. In this case I have tried to portray a rather ambivalent relationship with female sexuality and how difficult (if at all possible?) it can still be to completely separate sex and power from each other. It is perhaps a so far unsuccessful search for a completely apolitical kind of desire. As I do not feel as if I have an answer myself, the series (like many others) functions as a space that allows uncertainty and unknown answers. This uncertainty might call for spontaneous decisions, and for this reason water soluble oil paints have proven to be my preferred medium. They allow me to keep the narrative of my painting open for changes as well as new questions and answers, while still enjoying many qualities of classic oil paints.”
