Billy Bigwood
My name is Billy Bigwood born and still based in south london. I studied graphic design at central saint martins. Where i focued on illustration. I now predominantly like to paint but still work with a variety of mediums e.g drawing, printmaking ,sculpture, animation. My favourite paintings i’ve made so far often involve the use of spray paint, acrylic and a lot of masking tape. Since roughly 2017-Now i have been discovering the possibilities with this technique. I would say my work is usually quite abstract, graphic and colourful. I like to play with the relationship between colours. And I enjoy combining architectural forms with everyday objects.
Often i have to think to myself is it possible to tape that shape ? If not i hand paint it. Alongside my obsession with masking tape i also found a strong passion painting ribbons. Trying to capture movement in a still image. Sometimes i use tape and spray paint to create the ribbons ,sometimes they are hand painted.often in my larger pieces i try to incorporate ribbon forms amongst the graphic abstract compositions. Eventually the paintings become abstracted still lifes that play with light , colour, depth and form.
