In 1978, she began studying fine arts at the Berlin University of the Arts, graduating in 1986 as a master student of Prof. Klaus Fußmann. In 1982/83, she was a scholarship holder at the California Institute of the Arts, from where she also undertook a six-week trip through Mexico.During her time in Berlin, she developed a particular enthusiasm for the paintings of intimists such as Pierre Bonnard and Édouard Vuillard, as well as artists such as Adolph von Menzel and Max Liebermann.
