Carrie-Ann Stein

Carrie is a London-based artist, born and raised in Lancashire. She holds an MA in Print and a Postgraduate Diploma in Art & Design from the Royal College of Art. Previously, Carrie studied fashion design at Central Saint Martins’ and costume construction with the Royal Opera House before receiving sponsorship by the Linbury Prize to design sets and costumes for theatre. Working from lesser-known historical paintings, Carrie’s practice explores how emotional life is shaped and carried through images with a particular emphasis on how gestures and feelings persist across time. Her process begins with paper cutting and collage, much like working with a 2D garment pattern but with the aim of constructing prints which are then transferred into wet paint and over-painted by hand.
