Emeli Theander

Emeli Theander was born in Sweden in 1984. After finishing school in 2003 she moved to Berlin and supported herself by selling her drawings as screen prints on flea markets for some years. In that time she was also making street art under the name Chin Chin. During the five years at The Berlin University of Arts and a six month artist-in-residence at the Platoon Kunsthalle in Seoul, she put the pseudonym Chin Chin on pause and began focusing more on oilpainting. She was funded by the German National Academic Foundation from 2009 to 2011. In 2013 she was granted the “Merkel collection and foundation prize for painting” and in 2014 she received the Dorothea Konwiarz scholarship. In 2020 she was the winner of the Delphian Open Call.

She has exhibited in several exhibitions and art fairs, including “Dream keepers”, Gallery Sczydlowski (2024), “A la Source”, Galerie DYS (2023), “Nous, qui errons dans la nuit”, Gallery C (2020), “Doing Identity – The Reydan Weiss Collection”, Kunstmuseum Bochum (2017), “Objects of Attention”, Estonian Museum of Applied Arts and Design (2018), “Not guided to get here”, Kommunale Galerie Berlin (2018), “Drawing Now” (2014, 2015, 2023), “Projekt für die Gegenwart”, Haus am Lützowplatz (2010)
