Esme McMillan-Scott
Esme is a British artist who graduated with First Class Honours in Fine Art Painting from the University of Brighton in 2023. Her work explores nuanced themes of intimacy, necessary seclusion, memory, and the quiet beauty of the mundane. With sensitivity, she transforms overlooked moments into contemplative visual experiences. In 2023-24, Esme completed The Drawing Year at the Royal Drawing School, where she refined her observational skills and deepened her engagement with drawing as a core element of her practice. Her work strikes a delicate balance between observation and imagination, revealing how these elements intertwine to create meaning. Utilising intentional space and a refined approach to colour and line, Esme crafts pieces that feel both intimate and expansive. Her art evokes stillness and reflection, inviting viewers into a meditative state. This solitude celebrates the peacefulness found in quiet moments rather than isolating the viewer. Esme continues to explore the poetic concept of the ‘bliss of solitude,’ encouraging others to appreciate stillness and introspection in our fast-paced world. Her art serves as a gentle reminder to find beauty in the present and to recognise the delicate interplay between memory, space, and emotion.
