James Hayes

James Hayes is an emerging professional visual artist, illustrator and qualified architect. His default state of being is creating images as a way of making sense of the world around him.

He is inspired by many things: places, people, stories.. However he is particularly intrigued by the phenomenology of place. He’s interested in the way our experience of places and the relationships we forge with them exist as an ever evolving, jumbled and reciprocal flow across the material, -immaterial and -emotional realms. He believes there is always a quiet unseen interplay between our phenomenal experience of a place in the moment and our own internal meta-narratives. As such his personal work is often an exploration of this complex relationship between self and surroundings.

He tries to create work which makes manifest this elusive interaction, -the fluid dynamic that exists somewhere between the immaterial and the material. His ambition for the work is that it might communicate or illicit a tacit human understanding of the wholeness of our spatial experience; ..a particular sense of place, subtle suspended narrative or emotional state.
