Magda Delgado
Magda Delgado (born in Lisbon, 1980). Lives and works between Durham and Lisbon. Studied Architecture (1999-2004) at FAUL (Lisbon), MA Fine Art—Painting (2012) and BA Fine Art—Painting (2008) at FBAUL (Lisbon). Finalist of ”Portuguese Emerging Art ’04” and ”Prize Jovens Criadores ’09” (Fine Arts) in Lisbon/Évora, Commendation in ”Prize Cena d’Arte ’98” (Ceramics) in Lisbon. Her work is multidisciplinary, often reflecting on the problematic binomial Mankind—Nature, by putting the focus on the ethics surrounding human actions. Transversally, in her work, we find poetical views about Beauty as Consolation. The work method is founded on the constant absorption of new techniques which would communicate concepts and concerns. In part it is a reaction to the modern inheritance (mind the notion of authorship) that separates the artist’s body from the fabrication of the art piece itself, alienating this objects from the aura of the gesture of its intelectual creator. Public Collections: Calouste Gulbenkian Foundation (Portugal), Kells Collection (Spain), Denkendorf Monastery (Germany), Medeiros e Almeida House and Fernando Pessoa House (Portugal). Solo Shows selection: ”L’Arcadie après le Malaise dans la Civilisation”, Rooster Gallery Contemporary Art, New York, (2016); ”Golgotā”, Denkendorf Monastery, Germany (2017); L’Ermite devant le Mystère, Portuguese Cultural Centre, Luxembourg (2017).
