Miles Ladin

Miles Ladin is an artist born, raised, and working in New York City. In the 1970s, his family spent four years in London, around the corner from his favorite painter, Francis Bacon. Previous to receiving his MFA in Photography from the School of Visual Arts in NYC, he studied with photographer Larry Fink and painter Barkley Hendricks. Before 2015, his practice was limited to photography and artist’s books. These works are have been acquired by The Victoria & Albert Museum and the Special Collection Libraries of New York’s MoMA and Whitney museums. He has also exhibited at the Photographer’s Gallery, London and The Wolfsonian Museum, Miami.

In 2015, Ladin traveled to Oostende, Belgium, the hometown of painter James Ensor, and photographed the famed carnival. Influenced by this experience, he decided to extend his practice to include drawing and
painting. Both his photographic and non-photographic work presents a sardonic critique of humanity while highlighting how society willfully masks itself from reality.
