Saskia Hughes

Saskia Hughes (b.1994) is a printmaker, poet, educator and researcher from London. She holds a first class degree in Illustration from the University of Brighton, a Masters in Latin American history and politics from UCL and a PGCE from Goldsmiths. Her work over the past 10 years has followed the thread of the use of art and the imagination as a transformative tool for the wellbeing of young people and children. She does this through education (in school and alternative settings), participatory workshops, research and her own artistic practice. Drawing is central to her creative process, as a way of recording, observing and as a therapeutic tool. Her work currently explores themes of female intimacy, queering family structures and care as a radical act. Her current media include monotype, etching and aquatint because of the labour intensive and unpredictable elements to these processes. She has exhibited her work internationally, including Brighton, London and Bologna, with one of her etchings receiving an award at Woolwich Print Fair in 2021.
