Sofia Luiz Brightwell

Sofia Brightwell is a visual artist based between Lisbon and Norwich. Born in Brazil, she grew up in a multicultural household with Brazilian and British parents, an experience that continues to inform her practice and perspective on cultural identity.Sofia works primarily in painting, exploring domestic environments, everyday routines, and small gestures as sites where memory, care, and identity are formed. Her work is inspired by domestic rituals, cultural heritage, migration, and the intimate acts that shape belonging.She is currently pursuing a master’s in painting at the fine arts university in Lisbon, having previously studied a bachelor’s at UDESC, Brazil. Her work has been included in the 14th Curitiba International Contemporary Art Biennial in Florianopolis, Brazil and most recently in a group exhibition at ALLMO Cultural and Arte na Invicta in Porto, Portugal.
