Takashi Ogihara
“I was born in Nagano in 1959, Japan. Now lives in Saitama. I studied visual design and illustration at the Tokyo University of the Arts. I started my career at an advertising agency and later became an independent package designer. I designed more than 500 products while continuing to create paintings. The theme of my paintings was visual illusion through the placement of large organic forms in urban landscapes. I had a solo exhibition “MY TOKYO” at Ichigaya, Tokyo in 2011, but at almost the same moment, the Great East Japan Earthquake struck. I lost sight of the meaning of my paintings. When I saw the images of the town destroyed by the tsunami, I felt I desecrated Tokyo in my paintings. After a blank period of 7 years, I left my past concepts and experiences behind and started over by painting orthodox portraits. And I continue my paintings.”
