“I like to create images that suggest a kind of twisted parable or off-kilter moral lesson. The fish and cat are little heroes in an ambiguous relationship of predator/prey, ill advised companionship, potential coercion or doomed love. Perhaps they are symbolic of the tension between instinct and tenderness? Or perhaps it is an utterly fleeting, incidental and banal encounter. I like the idea that it is perhaps only our own projection that animates them with any emotional vitality. Having said this, the contact between the protagonists is real and natural. A visceral moment of clarity between claws, scales and fur in the cold, wet air.”
