“My current work focuses on the expressive impact of marking-making, using colour, form and line in ways that are relatively new to my practice. Drawing upon inner and outer landscapes for inspiration I am searching for that sweet-spot between abstraction and figuration. In this painting, and broader body of work, I have begun to play with traditional perspective, developing my composition intuitively. These images are loosely based on places I have visited, vistas I encountered and how they made me feel. By using mixed media I am trying to encourage unexpected collaboration between dry and wet mediums, and trusting that one gesture will lead to the next, depending on the outcome of these interactions. Whether my subject matter is landscape, still life, or portraiture, this expressive approach to making art is key to my practice.”
