“I painted this after a lunch with my daughter in Ikea. I love an Ikea lunch – it is simultaneously a busy but calm feeling and I find the quality of light where all of the dining hall interior is contre jour against the curtain walling extremely appealing. I also love the institutional nature of the space – instant hot food on a tray in a canteen is my happy place. I placed the solitary meatball on the plate in a moment of pure inspiration.”
