“I was struck by an arresting black in the 1960s of figures in the snow. Their dynamic flattened shapes against the white landscape was visually stimulating. I wanted to bring another narrative to the scene by enriching the story, yet creating a more gothic intense feeling to my work. I was at the time overwhelmed by how powerful the force of nature is and wanted to somehow explore this further, yet not in an obvious way. Therefore, the painting attempts to convey the internal experiences of an individual in a storm. Some may well be scared at that very moment captured, others may relish their freedom and the force of nature; to feel alive.”
