“Halogen I is a culmination of carefully layered and blended coloured pencil thickly applied over a vast area. This work was completed in 140 hours of drawing time, and 100 hours of studying, staring, and calculating next steps. This work contains a dozen of different hues of green to give the true halogen glow on a night landscape, and took nearly two dozens of black pencils to build the depth of the darkness.
The eerie night landscape of Halogen I is an exercise on the how light impacts the context of a setting. This particular area is inspired by a park/playground in the neighbourhood where I grew up, an ordinary and safe place usually filled with kids and dogs. Looming storm clouds soaking up the light pollution of distant clusters of street lights and a halogen light cast onto the three-decade-old landscaping give the impression that there is something more serious surrounding us when the illusion of our ordinary day-to-day life is transposed.”
