“Waiting For The Starman was created early in 2024. I had been working on a long form project called “Breathe – A Dialogue with the Urban Forest” looking at the disparity between the treatment of street trees and specimen park trees, referencing the heavy pollarding that the former suffer. The beauty and the form of this evergreen caught my eye as it towered over the surrounding trees. I was waiting for someone and sitting near the ‘Bowie Bandstand’ and had plenty of time to draw the tree. My practice is very much based in the landscape and I have a practice which tries to be sustainable, reusing and recycling-hence the use of Tetra-Paks which allow me freedom to explore the mark making directly and often within the environment I am working. The title comes from the proximity to the famous site of the 1969 performance by Bowie at the Bandstand.”
