Joseph Harper
After a nomadic childhood following his father’s career to South Africa, then back to 5 different counties in the UK, Joseph is currently settled in Oxfordshire. Having always painted for friends and family during more boring jobs paying the bills, he launched a business to paint commissions and offer prints for sale. He launched two months before the first lockdown in January 2020, so has faced “a few headwinds” in getting work out there, but collaborations with local businesses, charities and flyers through people’s doors have kept a steady if unspectacular stream of work coming!
He has however taken the time to learn new skills and to start portrait paintings (now on his 3rd). Self taught and concentrating on oil paints, he prefers the impact of a larger canvas, and is obsessed with nature and capturing light in the scene. Coronavirus has forced a greater focus inward and without travel, having to adapt his subjects. He loves the inner reflection that painting brings and in troubled times, the absolute serenity of putting oil paint on canvas has brought great solace.
