Violet Costello

Violet Costello (British/Canadian) is an artist living and working in Calgary, Alberta. She received her MFA from Concordia University in Montreal, Quebec. Her dense narrative paintings are often comical, but they also raise unsettling questions about the state of the world. Her work reflects on environmental, social and political issues, including dementia care, gender, gun violence, and women’s rights. Costello’s painting series Bringing Home Baby received the Procreate Project Mother Art Prize 2020 Online Award with Richard Saltoun Gallery in London UK. She was a finalist with a work from this series in the 2019 Salt Spring National Art Prize. Costello has received awards from the Alberta Foundation for the Arts, British Columbia Culture, and Canada Council.
