Sara Rossberg
I am a German born London based artist who studied at Staedelschule, Frankfurt/Main before coming to England in 1976 on a scholarship for further studies at Camberwell College of Art and Cafts. I have lived and worked here ever since and was internationally represented and exhibited throughout the 1980s and 90s, I had 17 solo shows including at Art Basel 1987 and museum retrospectives.
In 1989 I was a prize-winner at John Moores 16 Liverpool. I was commissioned by the National Portrait Gallery in 1995 to paint Dame Anita Roddick despite not being a dedicated portrait artist as such but purely on the strength of my figurative work at the time. My painting practice has evolved dramatically since but has always remained entirely figurative. During the last two decades I have worked mostly in reclusion and subsequently only few of my paintings have been seen. I have a regular presence on Instagram, documenting my continued process.
